Niches, my friends, only niches!

Oddly enough, this topic will not be about the architectural delights of modern art designers :) I'm going to share with you my thoughts about the marketing of social networks or communities .
A little background. I have friends who are going to create a website - a social network for party people: information about clubs, DJs, events, and so on, with a natural, modern web-bias. Their trick is in a variety of information, the ability to communicate with DJs and so on by appropriate persons.
So, closer to the body. These people absolutely do not understand how stupid their idea is. Complete tuhlyak. Why?
First, you need to understand the basics of the functioning of social networks and communities. If there is a certain group of people who are interested in something one or have some common characteristics, provided they have their own interest (this is a separate topic for conversation), they can be organized into a certain community. For example, the community of the same party-goers on the billboard.ru or prospect.ru (I'm not quite in the subject, so sorry for some inaccuracies, I'm sure there are some other thematic communities). So, at the moment, these communities are fully formed and functionally tolerant (at least quite lively). That is why my fellow startups need to rely not on “active young people aged 18–25 with Internet access”, but on a certain audience lured from other communities (who will run away from their familiar places for additional features?) then there is an understanding of the enormous risks : all your features, which (possibly) will allow to overwhelm a part of the audience, can be quickly picked up by market giants, leaving you behind.
That is why, in my opinion, it is important for beginning startups to understand that there are only two possibilities : either to find previously non-existent or unexplored properties and attributes by which a community can be created (which is rather difficult), or to use niche strategies and try to draw - A very narrow circle of people from an already existing community (which is even more difficult in some places, but do not forget about a higher level of loyalty!).
Well, actually why ? Why did I write about this? I hope for some discussion, I take into account the greater likelihood that I am wrong, and in general I look forward to any opinion or feedback, for example, on whether I correctly transferred the topic to this blog? :)
Thanks for attention :)

UPD Huge request: if you know about any community of people interested in dance events , please skip the link. Thank )
