Each idea loses its relevance over time and so that it “does not gather dust on the shelves”, it is better to bring it to at least some people. Some time ago, a gang of like-minded people developed such a product as Doc @ Hand (software for centralized storage of documents), which has now quietly passed away peacefully :) But, in the course of working on it, this gang had the idea to create a small service in conjunction with a client allows you to perform one single task - transfer files.

What is the chip
And the feature of this software is simple -
guaranteed delivery of the file (s) to the end user or service. Those. delivery with temporary storage of the file on the server (for example, in the case when the addressee is currently unavailable).
The focus is on simplicity. Should I send photos to a friend Yorik? Take the whole pack of photos and throw on the avatar Yorick on your list. Everything, the download went, even if Yorick is not in place, he will then receive a notification that someone sent him the files and will be able to receive them. Yes, and Yorik does not have to have an account in the system, because he can simply get the download link to his e-mail. This is how an application might look like in a production environment:
And further services
Why not allow our service users to transfer files not only to their friends but also to other services? For example, download a new video to your Vimeo account? Or throw on the printout of new photos from the holidays in a local service (for example fotki.lv for Latvia). And now, with the ubiquitous tweeter, we could throw the file on the tweeter with the signature and it would automatically appear in your tweet feed with a link to download the file.
Where is the loot?
Such a service, with a huge infrastructure, will require a lot of money for its maintenance and, of course, we also thought about the possibilities of its monetization. The main two areas:
- We take money from services, because they use our file delivery channel. For example, we take from fotki.lv 20 bucks a month, well, or 200 bucks.
- The second direction is more banal - premium accounts. Each user can buy a premium account and show off a large amount of space for files and a longer shelf life.
Some technology
It was planned that the files will be stored on the server (s) in original containers, which individually will not represent anything of themselves, and only the recipient or the connected service will be able to collect them. Writing thought on WPF.
Such an idea arose, lived and laid down on the shelf. I would be glad to hear any comments “stupid” this or “fun” :) I would love to use such a thing. Who would have written :)
