The company Plastic Logic at the last
D7 conference finally presented a prototype of its e-reader. There was
already enough news that the developer was preparing this product for market entry. But only now some information has appeared on the technical characteristics of this device.

The main thing is the touch screen e-ink and the presence of Wi-Fi and 3G modules. There is information about the dimensions - the book will be 22x28 cm in size and 6.9 mm thick. In theory, the e-reader from Plastic Logic, which is due out in early 2010, will be the main competitor of the new Amazon Kindle DX. It has a larger display, there is an on-screen QWERTY keyboard (as opposed to a hardware Kindle DX). The device uses an open software platform (which one is not specified), which makes it possible to endow the gadget with compatibility with any electronic documents: PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and others.

Also interesting is the interface of the new book, which, according to representatives of Plastic Logic, is different from all existing today. The lack of buttons is compensated by the touch screen, with which the control is performed. Menus or bookmarks (or adding a page to your favorites) can be done by pressing in different corners of the screen, and not you select a function through the main or additional OSD menu. There is also the possibility of adding handwritten notes.

While the device has one annoying drawback - the pages are updated much slower than the already-sold counterparts. But the manufacturer is working mainly on this problem, promising to release this parameter to an acceptable value.
And the cost of the reader is still not known, but presumably, it will be equal to $ 500 or something like that.
