Today released a new release of Linux Mint 7 Gloria, a distribution based on Ubuntu 9.04 and updated user-friendly design and a modified set of programs. Distrowatch distribution page is the third most visited.
Linux Mint differs from other distributions by a low initial threshold of entry, the presence of codecs, flash and other proprietary parts in the distribution (in the normal version). The system is fully translated into Russian. It is developed by a very small number of guys in Ireland and, in fact, is Ubuntu with installed codecs, an unusual theme, and several tools specially written for it. The layout of the design elements resembles Windows, which facilitates the transition. ')
In the seventh version, bugs were fixed, and several innovations appeared as compared with the 6th version. In the main menu, there are “assumptions” that speed up work with the system, “auto-selected” - programs are added to the favorites menu, if used frequently, the Recycle Bin icon in the menu shows the Recycle Bin or not. mintInstall now allows not to download screenshots, the program has a list of the most popular programs, improved appearance. mintUpdate shows the size of updates, and mintUpload - the program for uploading files to the network now supports any ftp and scp servers. Included a new theme, icons and a few more things.
In my opinion, Linux Mint today is the easiest and most convenient distribution kit for a home computer, although, of course, it does not quite follow the ideology of free software. I have been using Mint for about a year now and I am very pleased, Linux Mint did what Ubuntu promised - everything works right away. However, the distribution is also not perfect, to her a few, in my opinion, extra things.
For general acquaintance with the "tricks" of the system, you can read a review of the 6th version .
And, of course, since the 7th version is based on Ubuntu 9.04, then Ubuntuone will work on it - the free analog of Dropbox.
