"Pirates" again driven from the Russian streets

From now on, street trading of audio, video and computer disks is prohibited in Russia. The relevant decree was signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov, the government’s press service reported on Friday.

The discs can be sold only in equipped stores and in the original packaging, which should contain a number of data, including the name of the manufacturer and copyright holder.

A similar decision was made in October 2002, but it remained unfulfilled because of the impossibility, as the then head of the cabinet Mikhail Kasyanov put it, “to put a policeman behind every hawker, and a second policeman behind every policeman”
