What is a Zeitgeist?
Zeitgeist is not a replacement for a hierarchical file system or the usual kind of file manager. The goal of the Zeitgeist project is to create an abstraction layer that allows you to quickly find a file of any extension, no matter where it is located.
Zeitgeist is based on the fact that it registers a user's activity (created documents, visited websites, email messages and im) using tags (set both manually and automatically), organizing it in chronological order. Something similar can be seen in conventional local search systems, but their difference is that they cannot restore the overall picture of what documents or sites we used at the time of writing this article. This is the revolutionary nature of the Zeitgeist project, since, in conjunction with the GNOME Shell, it brings us even closer to the real task-oriented environment.
With what is this achieved?
The data for indexing is currently taken from
Gtk.RecentlyUsed ,
Firefox and Epiphany journals ,
TomBoy notes , and from the
Evolution mail client.
Is there a plan for further development?
Of course! The following tasks are indicated so far:
Improving the engine:
* When importing Firefox magazine, automatically take labels from it and (or) with delicious.
* GPS support.
* Pidgin log support. (stored in ~ / .purple / logs)
* Support for labels to windows
* Nautilus tag support
')
Interface improvements:
* Display all images for any day as a grid.
* Ability to perform quick actions on files, for example, send an e-mail or open the im window (see nautilus-share)
* Add option to view a certain period of time in the format of "all-in-one" without displaying duplicate files.
Architecture improvement:
* Experiments with Tracker, Soylent, and Empathy.
* Use RDF to better support semantic metadata. (for example, automatic labeling of all your activity for the period of time that you worked on a project)
Long term plans
* Better support for metadata.
* Integration with other computers and other devices.
