Recently, I wrote about the fact that the European Parliament
threatened the French with excessively overly ardent Frenchmen and regretted fans to download unlicensed content from the Web. The point was that the parliamentarians did not really approve of the French initiative to disconnect users from the Internet for a period of 1 year, who were three times noticed in objectionable recording companies and other studios. However, the French and their president, Nicolas Sarkozy, in response showed the European Parliament another finger and finally took the unfortunate bill yesterday. So far, however, the bill passed only in the lower house of parliament. But the guys are sure that the French Senate will also give the law a green light. If you have not already given: the vote should take place literally at these moments (has it already taken place?).
In the new project, the authorities propose to send warning messages to users who, by their actions, violate the copyrights of film and sound recording companies. If these warnings have no effect, operators will be able to disconnect users from the Internet for a year. In addition, the law obliges local operators to intercept and transfer data to the authorities about people involved in the distribution of pirated materials. And they will already be judged. Normal users will be given two attempts. And two warnings. If after that they don’t lose the desire to merge illegal content from file sharing services or torrents, then that's all, write down and say goodbye to the Internet. The draft law, by the way, also provides for the fact that it will not stop disconnection from this or that provider of particularly zealous users. So that users do not run from provider to provider in order to avoid blocking, providers in France will have a single “black list” of violators.
The sad thing in all of this is not only that consumers of illegal content will be deprived of not only the ability to download it, but also generally access to the Internet. It is also sad that due to this provision, the government of the country received the right to fully “wiretap” traffic. And also the fact that this bill Sarkozy set a precedent. It's only the beginning.

Ps. It was not for nothing that I wrote in the title about “consumers of illegal content”. Because This stupid law is designed specifically for them, and not for those who distribute this very content. Sarkozy is going to shoot the gun on the sparrows. Instead of doing business. There is a suspicion that the providers will not be satisfied either. Exclude from the total traffic that falls on illegal content, what will remain?
