In anticipation of the summer holidays, he attended to the issue of providing himself and his wife with internet at sea. Last year used a phone with bluetooth. Everything would be fine, but for the duration of the conversation the Internet was interrupted, and the phone had to be constantly on charge, because otherwise the battery will be discharged in a couple of hours, besides the choice of the tariff plan is very limited by the current tariff plan.
I used the MTS HYPER ACTIVE tariff plan - the speed did not rise above 30-40Kb / s, but this turned out to be enough for Skype voice calls and even for video broadcasting (a couple of frames per second, of course, but I didn’t even expect this).
This year I decided to approach the issue more seriously and untie the Internet from the phone - this is too inconvenient. Immediately I say that I didn’t even look towards 3G - they have too little coverage and I’ll get the internet somewhere on Azov or in the mountains.

The description was promising - usb, gprs (with EDGE it is not clear, but even at EDGE, the speed did not come close to the maximum of GPRS, so uncritically), in the comments they wrote that they successfully raised it under Linux. Installed in the system as a modem. You can connect a headset with a microphone.
In general, it looks like what you need. Ordered.
It came in a beautiful box. Modem design is absent - angular, blunt, cheap plastic. It is really difficult to put the SIM card cover in place. The modem itself is very large and will not fit into every USB slot. It looks like the Chinese understood this and carefully put in a set a 20-centimeter USB extension cable.

Having connected the earphone, you can call from the modem with a voice - the quality is not a fountain - something is very strong and it constantly crackles in the earpiece. However, the interlocutor is heard quite clearly and use as an emergency phone is possible. With an incoming call, the software produces an annoying sound and shows a pop-up window.

In general, I am satisfied - I am provided with Internet for the summer. There remains only one task - to find the most convenient tariff package (just for information - I am in Ukraine). Requirements: unlimited traffic, good coverage (that is, not only cities, but also the coast and the Carpathians) and a non-overloaded network. Who can advise?
