Asa Dotzler on his blog shared his latest Firefox user count. It turned out 270 million.
To estimate the number of users, the data of the Application Update Service was taken, by means of which each Firefox makes a request every day, pending the appearance of a browser update. Such requests to the Mozilla servers comes every day about 90 million.
Since not everyone uses the browser every day, the resulting number was multiplied by 3 to calculate the average number of Firefox users per month. The coefficient was not taken from the ceiling - Asa refers to this article . ')
And it is important to understand that the assessment “suffered” many Linux-users who update Firefox through the repositories, and not the built-in update tools that distributive developers disable. Thus, 270 million is the approximate number of Firefox users without taking into account the large Linux audience.
At the end of the post, Asa expresses the hope that the manufacturers of other browsers will conduct similar assessments for overall correlation and common good.
