As promised earlier, today Microsoft announced the addition of a “new dimension” to its Virtual Earth map search service. Now you can view 3D images of some American cities, with all buildings and skyscrapers, where you can even see the textures and virtual billboards.
Currently, only 15 US cities are available in 3D, but by the end of next year it is planned to expand their number to 100, including major cities in the world. The main difference between Google.Earth and the new service is that it runs directly in the browser (of course, IE only), although a small plugin will have to be downloaded for it.
