Congratulations to all FreeBSD users for finally releasing version 7.2!
Last night, after making cvsup, I discovered that the system version was 7.2-RELEASE, which was earlier than the planned release date for a couple of days.
The images of the disks on the FTP appeared only tonight, and more precisely in the morning by the time of Moscow time, although the date of the change is May 1st.
What are the key changes that were made in 7.2 can be viewed at the
link , I note only the most interesting (IMHO):
- Multi IP support for jails! finally they did it. Now you can use several IP addresses in the same jail as ipv4 and ipv6 or even do without them.
- For amd64, virtual kernel address space increased to 6GB
Detailed list of changesList of supported equipmentAlso yesterday, the newsletter announced changes in the end-of-life cycle of the FreeBSD Security Officer as follows:
Users using FreeBSD 7.0 are recommended to quickly upgrade to 7.1. Maybe someone will be waiting for the upcoming release of 7.2, but they should know that this release will receive only the “normal” version of support - 12 months, therefore it will not be supported as long as 7.1.
At this point in time, support for different branches is as follows:
RELENG_6 | n / a | n / a | n / a | November 30, 2010 |
RELENG_6_3 | 6.3-RELEASE | Advanced | January 18, 2008 | January 31, 2010 |
RELENG_6_4 | 6.4-RELEASE | Advanced | November 28, 2008 | November 30, 2010 |
RELENG_7 | n / a | n / a | n / a | last release + 2 years |
RELENG_7_1 | 7.1-RELEASE | Advanced | January 4th, 2009 | January 31, 2011 |
RC2 is still on the Russian mirrors ... but 7.2 images can be pulled from the wizard, and it's easier to make cvsup to RELENG_7_2 and you will be happy :)
