Spanish providers failed to negotiate with copywriters

Translation Enigmax post on TorrentFreak.com.

After long months of negotiations, the initiative supported by the Government of Spain to find a compromise on the issue of “illegal file sharing”, which would have arranged both copywriters and providers, failed.

The copyright holders, the Coalition of Creators, represented by the General Society of Authors and Publishers (SGAE), wanted to force providers to increase the fees charged to their customers in order to compensate for the hypothetical losses resulting from using p2p services.

Eduardo Bautista (Eduardo Bautista), president of SGAE, recently stated that providing such assistance is a “civic duty” for providers. In this light, it is not surprising that, in his opinion, those who encroached on the sacred need simply to be disconnected from the Internet.

Mobile operators, to which these requirements are imposed, - Ono, Orange, TelefĂłnica, Vodafone - cannot come to an agreement with copywriters, which is not surprising given what they are asked to do.

Bautista said that he would like to find a solution to the problem of online piracy, which would allow authors and publishers to remain interested in doing their work. He called on the government to treat this issue “wisely”. “You cannot build a business without the very first link in this chain,” he said.

Now both groups intend to submit separate projects to the government. It can also be noted that the Internet users themselves did not participate in this debate.
