Mozilla launches new add-ons site for Firefox

The new site will help developers create more great add-ons for Firefox, and users will be able to add the functions they need to the browser, customizing it to their needs,
- said Mike Shaver, head of Ecosystem Development.
The skills and knowledge of the Mozilla developer community will now be focused on developing, testing and supporting add-ons. For users, this can only mean better quality of add-ons, and for organizations, a greater number of ways to integrate their services into Firefox.

Add-ons for Firefox allow you to diversify its functional, entertaining and simply useful features that will provide full control over what the browser will look like and what functionality it will provide to the user. Add-ons make Firefox the most customizable browser available to Internet users. At this time, more than 7 million Firefox users use browser-based add-ons.

What's new:
User reviews and ratings add-ons.
An improved search engine will allow Firefox users to find the desired add-on.
Localization of the interface for Danish, Spanish, Korean, German, Romanian, Russian, Slovak, French, Japanese. Work is underway to localize the interface to other languages.
New development tools and support for add-on developers, as well as the ability to “rely” on the Mozilla community when developing.
New methods of testing add-ons will ensure high quality and functionality to users.

For developers, the Mozilla team has added to the site detailed information on creating, maintaining and distributing high quality add-ons. Now they will be given as much attention from the Mozilla community as the Firefox browser being developed, verified and supported by this community. Verification of the code of add-ons, functions will be provided, as well as feedback on additions and improvement methods will be taken into account. The community will recommend select add-ons to help users find the best of thousands of free extensions and themes.

Hundreds of developers have already created excellent add-ons for Firefox, for example: AdaptiveBlue, Adblock Plus, AllPeers, del.icio.us, FoxMarks, NoScript, Pronto, StumbleUpon, and many others.

Currently, the AMO translation (Addons.Mozilla.org) is inconsistent (new pages are added, old pages change, new categories and other information appear). Therefore, all those interested in improving the quality of localization can leave their comments ( and better immediately with suggestions) in the topic of our forum , as well as discuss controversial points. Especially for the translation of the AMO into Russian, an online service has been created - Pootle , where you can also offer your own version for each line.
