Torment with Ubuntu

Once again I tried to make Ubuntu my main system. This time I tried version 9.04. The results are lower (note that I am not quite a novice, I have experience in a couple of working days in Linux, that is, I know what a console is).

1. The installation could not start, because the installer at point-blank did not see my NTFS-based file system and suggested formatting the entire hard disk for myself. Solution found: create an empty partition based on FAT32 - everything worked. Spent 30 minutes.
2. When, after installation, I deleted the FAT32 partition I did not need, the grub system loader hung up with error 17. I had to read how it works and how to fix it. Spent an hour 10 minutes on the basics of his work and 50 on finding out one particular detail that spoiled everything. Just an hour
3. As usual, ICQ did not work. I tried 5 different messengers. That is, of course, at the minimum it worked, but sometimes with the Russian names of the problem groups, the story for some reason is not saved, the interface is terribly poor for the program. There is nothing close to QIP usability. Spent 2 hours on experiments, spat.
4. The visual effects did not work, i.e., my video card was not fully supported by default. I installed the driver package through the “Add / Remove Programs” menu, i.e. I did nothing with the handles. And what would you think? The video system began to hang when loading. 2 hours of trying to fix the intuitive did not help - and to understand the specific settings of xorg, spending a couple more hours on it ...

And this is for me, an experienced user, who is not afraid of the command line and still worked in DOS ... and this is for human beings?
