Widgetphone ZenZui - Microsoft's trump card in the fight against the iPhone

A subsidiary Microsoft startup with a strange name ZenZui should stake out a position in the mobile phone market for the Redmond giant. Its creation was announced today at the CTIA conference in Florida.

Unlike Apple, Microsoft is not going to manufacture its own mobile phones, but is trying to create an open platform for widgets that will work on any mobile phone: under Windows Mobile, under Java and Brew.

The name ZenZui contains the abbreviation of “Zooming User Interface”. The basis of the concept of ZenZui are widgets, grouped on the screen of a mobile phone in clusters of four. Each cluster can be “zoomed in” and accessed for a specific widget, and through it - to web content.

Anyone can distribute ZenZui widgets. You can create a widget from any web content that has RSS. At first, ZenZui widgets will only work on Windows Mobile handsets, but by the end of the year Java and Brew phones will be supported.

Closed beta testing of ZenZui should start this summer. The startup has already received $ 12 million in venture capital investments, and Microsoft owns a smaller part of the shares.

According to experts, this is not the first “widgetphone”, which we will hear about in the near future.
