Today, at the press lunch for journalists of leading media, a new office of
Google in Russia was presented.
The Russian office celebrates the year from the date of the start of its work. The head of “Google Russia” Vladimir Dolgov and the director of the Moscow development center Sergey Burkov spoke to journalists. Both of them told, first of all, about the achievements of representation in the field of localization of Google products and promotion in the Russian market. Then the journalists were given the opportunity to make a tour of the office and chat with employees of the company in an informal setting.
Vladimir Dolgov’s speech was devoted to the achievements of Google Russia, among which he singled out LiveInternet statistics, which indicates an increase in the number of links to sites from Google search pages.

Speaking about the importance of localizing web services, Dolgov noted that for 67% of Internet users, English is not their first language. According to him, Google is trying to provide the ability to search the Internet for as many users as possible, so there is a search in Latin, as well as in the language of one of the races from the Star Wars movie.

The main areas of work of the Russian representative office were the means for teamwork and communication, mobile platforms and localization of services. Dolgov singled out the following projects as representation achievements:

On the question of when not only advertisers, but also webmasters will be able to freely use contextual advertising services, cash out the money earned, Dolgov said that this question is still at the decision stage. The big problem for webmasters working with Google Adsense is that, unlike in Western countries, where the banking industry has evolved consistently from cash through checks to plastic cards, Russian banks have “skipped” the check phase and now perceive this type of payment document inadequate.
He declined to answer what share Google has in the contextual advertising market in Russia, citing the secrecy of this information: it cannot be disclosed in accordance with NASDAQ rules. Speaking about the company's prospects in this area, he noted that with the advent of Google, the Russian Internet advertising market has grown significantly, so it makes no sense to say that the company has taken a certain share in it: rather, it has increased its volume.
The speech of Sergey Burkov, the details of informal communication with him, as well as photos of the office will be published a little later today - in
the “Office” Project .
