Will iPhone soon get a version for CDMA networks?

The American operator Verizon said it is in talks with Apple to develop a CDMA version of the iPhone. The operator said that a few months ago, he began negotiations with Apple management at the “highest” level, when Steve Jobs completely controlled the daily work of the corporation. Source USA Today asked to remain anonymous, since it does not have the right to speak publicly on behalf of the company.

It is worth recalling that the exclusive rights to sell the iPhone in the United States until 2010 belong to the operator AT & T, and the operator is negotiating the renewal of the exclusive. Roger Entner, head of research for the telecommunications market at Nielsen, noted that at the moment the AT & T operator’s 3G network is “slightly faster”, but the Verizon operator “inspires more confidence in terms of reliability”.

Interestingly, the news conflicts with what Verizon Executive Director Ivan Seidenberg told the Wall Street Journal. In particular, he expressed doubts about the feasibility of creating a CDMA version of the iPhone and noted that a more correct step would be to create a version for LTE networks: “Apple never seriously considered creating CDMA iPhone primarily due to the limited distribution channels.”

The operator Verizon Wireless plans to launch LTE at the end of this year, and by 2010 to provide LTE coverage in major American cities

From me: if you still have an iPhone CDMA, then Skylink will have another chance to survive :)
