Kaspersky became the winner of the State Prize in the field of science and technology

The Council for Science, Technology and Education under the President of Russia has determined the laureates of the State Prize in the field of science and technology, the Kommersant newspaper writes. According to the decision, astrophysicist Dmitry Varshalovich, virologist Iosif Atabekov and general director of Kaspersky Lab Evgeny Kaspersky will receive the award, which will be awarded on June 12, 2009. Each of the winners will receive five million rubles.

Doctor of Physics and Mathematics Dmitry Varshalovich, a professor at the Department of Space Research at St. Petersburg University, is the author of over 200 scientific publications in the field of astrophysics. Iosif Atabekov is the head of the department of virology at the Faculty of Biology and head of the department of plant biochemistry of viruses at the Research Institute of Physico-Chemical Biology named after A.N. Belozersky MSU. In 1994, he became the laureate of the State Prize for a series of works on virology.

Evgeny Kaspersky is the founder, leading developer and owner of a controlling stake in Kaspersky Lab, a company that develops computer security software.

A total of 33 members of the Science Council took part in the voting for candidates of which 16 were represented. Russian President Dmitry Medvedev was not present at the meeting. According to the rules, you could vote for several candidates at once. Of all the winners, Kaspersky scored the least of the votes. 29.
