Mercurial support added to Google Code

According to the Google Code Blog , soon hosting for open-source projects from Google will support Mercurial along with Subversion for version control.

The developers carefully chose between different distributed systems, and in the end they chose mercurial, and this interesting document is dedicated to the process of choosing between mercurial and git. Mercurial won the contest because:

• It is better integrated into Google's infrastructure: less complexity with data storage, simpler and “cleaner” HTTP interface;
• more convenient for windows users (the official windows git port uses cygwin);
• learning curve less um curve.

Google developers had to partially rewrite mercurial, instead of using standard disk storage, they use BigTable .
