Oracle-Sun: who is the victim?

In the topic of the merger of Oracle and Sun flashed a thought about the possible cooperation of SAP AG in the development of JavaEE technology.

Let me remind you that SAP is the market leader in solutions for large businesses (ERP, CRM, BI, consolidation, etc.), while Oracle has been trying for a long time to get closer to “numbering”. So PeopleSoft, JD Edwards and Siebel were bought out. In contrast to the SMB segment, these purchases did not produce stunning results in the market of "serious" software solutions. But the battle continues, moreover, rather aggressive .

SAP in turn hold the Sun for a strategic partner. And not without purpose, the SAP NetWeaver product supports Java (EE), due to which it is a key element in the SOA concept. John Reid's comment on the article on cio.com allegedly refutes the dependence of SAP on Java, saying that all key decisions are built on ABAP, and no one will transfer them (I would even say "can not"). That's the way it is, but the development strategy of new products was very closely related to Java. For example, after buying Visiprise , SAP predicted leadership in the market for MES-systems in the long term. And “formerly Visiprise” products are implemented in Java, which is known firsthand, since after the merger, a large Kiev office was taken over by SAP-Ukraine.

The subsequent development of JavaEE "under the roof" of Oracle is not at all in the hands of SAP AG: if partnership is possible, it will have serious costs for the latter. It is difficult to make any predictions about the fate of ERP market players after the transaction. But the prospects are clearly not in favor of SAP.
