Roaming in the EU will become history this July

The quest of the European Commission to end the "roaming charges" on text messages and data transfer, occurring in roaming in the EU, has come to a triumphal end.

The proposal of the European Commission ( PDF is available here ) to limit roaming text messaging and wholesale prices for data transfer was approved by the Council for Transport, Telecommunications and Energy in December, and approved by the European Parliament on April 21.

The average price of a text message when roaming in the EU is now € 0.29; under the new agreements, on July 1, it will drop to € 0.11 (note of the translator: this is without VAT) , and wholesale prices for data transmission in roaming will be limited to € 1 per megabyte.

In addition, Parliament went further and proposed further restrictions for roaming voice calls. The price of outgoing calls will fall from € 0.46 per minute to € 0.35 per minute, and incoming calls from € 0.22 per minute to € 0.11 per minute. It is also necessary to measure the duration of calls by seconds to prevent expensive rounding.
