Red Hat has compiled a distribution map of interest in open source software.

By order of Red Hat, the Georgia Institute of Technology, USA, conducted a study of the global state of open source software development. The results of the work formed the basis for the creation of interactive maps of the development of open source software and the favorable environment to conduct opensource activities.

Interactive maps allow you to visually compare the potential and degree of development of open technologies of 75 countries mentioned in the report of the Technological Institute. It included indicators such as support by countries of open standards, the number of users of open systems, etc. The data obtained are based on academic, professional and popular science publications, as well as interviews with experts in the field of open source software. Additionally, the favorable map provides an assessment of the prospects for the development of opensource in a particular country.

Additionally, the rating of open source software support in various countries of the world is also presented in tabular form . The overall rating is led by France, Spain and Germany. The United States is in 9th place, Russia - in 42.

The maps are distributed as part of the Open Source Index project used by the Georgia Institute of Technology to write a research platform. Together with a course of lectures on the rules for the successful development of open projects offered to students, it aims to draw the attention of all interested parties to the problems identified in the study.
