Why Oracle wants to buy Sun (explanation)

The saga that Sun Microsystems will sooner or later buy an equally well-known and major player in the IT business seems to be approaching its logical finale. Last Monday, Oracle announced it would buy Sun’s business for $ 5.6 billion (or $ 9.5 per share). The explanation for this is that Oracle wants to acquire JAVA, calling it "is the most important software Oracle has ever acquired." In TechRepublic, a note has already appeared that Oracle wants to become a kind of Adobe Apple, but not for end-users, but for corporate users . It means that when buying JAVA, Oracle finally realizes the dream of Charles Phillips, that the company will be able to offer everything to its customers: from software to hardware.

The author of the note on TechRepublic quite transparently substantiates the benefits of Oracle from buying Sun. Personally, I liked the idea that both sides would benefit from this - the merger of companies was called “natural evolution”, which was unanimously approved by Sun’s shareholder board. The completion of the transaction is expected by the end of the summer.

PS: yes, probably, Sun will really give up (exactly, because for Oracle - and this is emphasized in the above note - these are “mere pennies”) in “good hands”. True, it will be necessary to forget about MySQL forever - Elisson from Oracle is not able to support an open source-competitive solution.
