As part of Lotusphere-2009, IBM announced a new SaaS (“Software-as-a-Service”) service LotusLive. The principle of SaaS (“Software-as-a-Service”) is based on the fact that the software is not a boxed product, but is provided for rent, working on the provider side. To access the software that adapts to the requirements of a particular user, it is enough to use any browser. The beta version of the service is usually provided free of charge, and the payment depends on the number of users, the volume of transactions and other quantitative indicators. And now about the product itself. LotusLive SaaS services are designed to help companies of all sizes work more productively by simplifying teamwork and communications. LotusLive services provide access to a rich set of tools for working interaction without the need for prior investment in IT resources or infrastructure.

LotusLive services use an open business model and open web standards that make it easy to integrate these services with third-party applications. In particular, a partnership with companies Skype, LinkedIn and Salesforce.com (providers of popular services of the same name) aimed at developing and supplying joint integrated solutions is expected.

LinkedIn , a network of more than 34 million business professionals, announced its intention to work with IBM to integrate its capabilities with LotusLive services. LotusLive users will be able to search for people on the professionally oriented LinkedIn public network and then quickly interact with them through LotusLive services.

At the Lotusphere-2009 conference, Salesforce.com showed examples of integrating LotusLive services into its CRM solutions. Such integration is designed to simplify and improve the interaction of business with customers and partners. Organizations will be able to expand customer relationship management in the Salesforce CRM application with LotusLive collaboration tools.

Skype, in turn, also announced plans to integrate the popular IP telephony service with LotusLive services in order to create flexible unified communications. This integration project will allow LotusLive users to make Skype calls directly from within LotusLive using the LotusLive contact list.
