Wikipedia is about to upgrade the license
The Wikimedia Foundation Board of Attorneys is voting on changing Wikipedia's license from GFDL version 1.2 to GFDL version 1.3 and then introducing dual licensing for the materials contained in the draft.
The GFDL license was recently updated to allow re-licensing without directly requesting permission from each of the copyright holders who contributed to the collaboration. The decision on whether to update the license conditions, however, is planned to be adopted democratically through global voting , which began on April 12 and will last until May 3, covering the entire community (all participants who have made at least 25 of any Wikimedia Foundation projects edits until March 15, 2009), in which a simple majority of qualified participants will mean sufficient support for such a change.
