We are linux

At the end of last year, I wrote that the non-profit organization Linux Foundation , which is engaged in evangelism, legal and financial support for the fastest growing platform in the computer world, announced a competition for the best promotional video on the topic “I'm a Linux”.

Last week in San Francisco, California, a group of judges determined the winner of the competition - they became a freelance graphic designer Amitay Tweito (Amitay Tweeto) from Israel. His work “What does it mean to be Free” has earned the highest praise and tremendous response, as an inspiring and very sensual video dedicated to the platform.

According to the judges and all those who participated in the selection of the best commercials, in the period between December and March about 90 works were taken. Users voted for the most interesting, and the judges, as a result, chose the winner.

Remarkable is the fact that despite the initial direction of the contest “I'm a Linux” most of the works were “We are Linux” in some way or another - there is already a huge difference with the sensational Apple and Microsoft advertisements.

Many video creators focused primarily on the commercial independence of the platform - which is not surprising, given the current economic situation. Linux Foundation's vice president of marketing and development, Amanda McPherson (Amanda McPherson), who oversaw the entire competition from start to finish, commented on the winner’s video: “This video speaks at a much higher level of perception, dropping everyday things to the viewer what really matters is the concept of freedom in the computer world. Over time, we become more open and transparent in the device of life, and today the user is ready for this message. ”

In addition to Amanda, the remaining 6 judges unanimously agreed on the choice of the winner - and among them there are very, very demanding people, such as: Larry Augustine (founder of VA Linux), Joe Zonker Brockmeyer (social manager of OpenSUSE), Tim O'Reilly Eventually.

The winner's prize is a trip to the Linux Foundation Japan Linux Symposium, which will be held in October. And, of course, universal respect. In addition, let me show readers two more videos, highly rated by both users and judges.
