OmniDrive: keep your files handy

The OmniDrive service, which however has no relation to the OmniGroup , is a service for storing your files. When registering, you choose the tariff plan that you will use: Free, Pro1, Pro2, Pro3. You can read them on the same page sign up .

After login you see the interface for working with files. Nothing like? That's right: painfully familiar Windows mixed with ajax. Even file icons are taken from Win, for example, for jpg files these are icons of the standard Image and Fax Viewer :).

We immediately notice that part of the space is already taken, but we haven’t downloaded anything yet! A couple of clicks going to the Downloads folder, we understand that client distributions are stored there: under Windows and Mac OS X. There was no client for Linux, but looking ahead, I’ll say that under Mac OS X the service is mounted as a disk, so under Linux there will be a solution ;)

I installed a client for Mac OS X, and I’ll say right away that I only managed to test it. Due to various external factors under Win, I have no Internet and I did not succeed in testing the client there. I must say: the client is not rich in functionality. It does not even have settings. All that is required of him is to log in to the service, conduct a primary synchronization, and connect the OmniDrive drive. Further synchronization can be performed by selecting the context menu item on the disk itself.

Separate words deserve the interface in the browser. There is naturally more rich functionality. The file upload function is made in such a way that after selecting a single file, you can select several more and download them with one click. My attempts to make Advanced Upload were defeated, because this feature is available only to paid users. All files are added to the root directory. But if you have copy & paste functions and automatic unarchiving capabilities when loading, everything becomes not so scary :)

A separate item should be noted the function of working with Word-ovsky and Excel documents, because the advanced online editor from Zoho is present.

If you thought that OmniDrive does not allow you to give access to your files, you were mistaken. In the properties of the file, you can specify that it is shared, enter a name for whom it is actually shared, and a link will be generated immediately.

Above, I described the main features of the OmniDrive service, but in addition to them, for example, there is a SlideShow feature for your images, Live Folder, creation of simple text and html documents, etc. This service could be very useful for people who travel a lot and often encounter documents that are easier speaking - to businessmen. But for students or people who decided to transfer all their .doc and .xls files to the web, this service would be very useful. OmniDrive is quite worthy to be considered a competitor to Google Docs & Spreadsheets.
