Symbian Foundation Announces Plans to Launch Platforms
The Symbian Foundation consortium formed last year is working on the Symbian open platform for next-generation smartphones. Alliance employee David Wood published information on software release on the official blog . It turned out that the members of the alliance plan to release two versions of the platform annually. So by mid-2009, Symbian ^ 2, based on the S60 5th Edition Feature Pack 1, will be ready. The first device with a “sanded” Symbian ^ 2 will be released at the end of the year. Six months later, Symbian ^ 3 will see the light. Probably, the first phone with Symbian ^ 2 will be a Nokia phone. Samsung, LG, Sony Ericsson and other vendors will not be left aside either.
