In the Gmail team, we believe that finding the right email address among thousands of emails can be just as important as finding the right web page among billions on the Internet. So in order to make the search in Gmail easier, we have made a new experimental feature in Gmail Labs: Search Autocomplete.
Turn on AutoFill Search in the Labs tab in Gmail’s preferences, and you’ll receive suggestions as you type in the search box. One of the most popular searches in Gmail is names or email addresses, so the first kind of suggestion you see is contacts. Some names are not easy to remember (my last name is an excellent example!) - with this new feature, you can simply enter a few letters and select the desired contact from the list. Easy and fast.
Gmail offers advanced search options , which are a powerful tool for finding the one message that you have in mind. You can search in special places or search for messages with attachments of a specific type (for example, a photo). Suppose I want to find photos that my friend Chris sent me. I need to enter his address, and then filename: (jpg OR png) . With Autocomplete Search, I can type “photos” or “pictures”, select “has photos” from the drop-down list (as in the screenshot below) and I will form a search query (filename: (jpg OR png). You can also enter the word “attachment »And AutoFill Search will list the most common types of attachments for you.
One of the reasons why we still show you this geek request is to allow you to tailor it to your needs. For example, if you want to include TIFF files in the search results, you can enter for the query: (JPG or PNG or TIFF).
Use and make sure that it will save you time to search.
