Opera's face control provides browser control

Oslo, Norway - April 1, 2009

Company Opera Software today announces the next innovation, which will be included in Opera 10 - Facial Control (Face Gestures). This technology allows any webcam owner to work with a browser using their own face. The development is based on the same architecture as Mouse Gestures, which makes browsing the web as easy as smiling, winking, or wiggling your nose.

Facial management was the result of the joint work of Opera and the Norwegian Secret Service - NIS (Norwegian Intelligence Service) to create the most effective image recognition technology based only on JavaScript, HTML and CSS. After more than seven years of experimentation, the Facial Management system is ready for public testing.

“Back in 2001, we introduced Mouse Control in Opera 5.1 to the world. But we already knew where we were going, ”said Jon von Tachner, executive director of Opera. “By that time, we had already developed a keyboard management system built into one of the earliest versions of the browser, and after the voice control appeared in Opera 8, we had only one unused Opera browser control tool - the user's face. Opera’s face control sets new standards for browser control. ”

Opera's facial control includes more than 45 functions, from opening a new tab and restoring sessions to navigating web pages. Also, the Facial control is integrated into the built-in mail client browser Opera. Moreover: Facial control can even partially replace Mouse control. To activate the new technology, just press the F8 key (supported only in Opera 10).
