Photo Gallery Design

Now I am working on the redesign of one of our projects. Now I reached the pages of the photo gallery. I realized that what is - horror. I reviewed a thousand and one sites and realized that "everything is not right." The head is already spinning from viewed sites, but everything seems not usable, not comfortable, not beautiful.

Maybe someone can share their opinions on the topic of how a photo gallery should look for a fairly large project, although I think for small sites that need a photo gallery, it also doesn’t hurt to be usable, convenient, simple, etc.
