8% of international calls go through Skype

The share of Skype in international voice traffic has increased to 8%, according to a 2008 TeleGeography statistical report . Thus, in just one year, Skype increased its share by 41%. Now it is the de facto world's largest service for international communications. No telecom can compare with it.

In general, the market for international calls is developing quite interesting. Despite the spread of IM, e-mail and so on. communication channels, the volume of voice international calls only grows every year. Last year they grew by 12%. However, in monetary terms, the market volume remained the same, the reason for which are rather rapidly falling prices.

In just one year, the inhabitants of the earth talked through international channels for 417 billion minutes. Of these, about 33 billion passed through Skype, including 8.4 billion minutes via the SkypeOut paid service.
