Powerful web client technology ... is it good?

Today in the Samara conference I saw a discussion of the Technosila site, developed by Lebedev.
And I found an interesting phrase “Try it on a moderately weak computer (a netbook of a thread) to open - the browser hangs for 10 seconds each time. „

Web developers, have you ever thought about creating a site that is overloaded with JS scripts and Flash, that opening it on a netbook, nettop, it ... will slow down a lot?

Netbooks, subnotebooks (they never remembered the correct name) turned out to be an obvious surprise from a non-commercial project. And if at the time of the launch of the OLPC project we did not expect a large flow of users to the sites of Russia and Europe from this platform, today more and more people prefer this platform as the most mobile, yet affordable, and full-featured x86.

I personally know enough wealthy people who refused Sony VAIO in the direction of netbooks, because the difference in 40-60 thousand is still noticeable, and what they do on this computer is internet surfing and viewing documents.

What do they see when they come from a netbook (quite limited in resources and not widely updated) to their favorite sites through IE, the standard browser for many? Right - Brakes. Of course, there is Firefox 3, which has gained popularity. But in the current stable version it is quite slow, especially when opening new tabs, nerves wind.

Why am I - despite all the advances in progress, we are moving toward reducing the power of publicly available computers, are you thinking about optimizing for these types of platforms? This thought has visited me not for the first time since I started viewing statistics on visitors of our postcard project.

PS: and one should not forget about the possible growth of terminal solutions, since Prerequisites for this, too, are available. And the allocated memory and processor time, for one user, is unlikely to be large.
