We turn the symbian-smartphone into a web-camera.

Until recently, I was very skeptical about the idea of using a webcam. However, the rich possibilities of video processing from a webcam in Flash and the augmented reality program ( ARSights post is augmented reality , a webcam mouse, a joystick, etc. ) undermined the confidence in the web of the peephole. The last straw was the monthly trip to Cambridge. Understanding wisely that a web-camera for me would be just a toy a couple of times, I decided to find a software solution.

So, the program wwigo . Transmits video from a symbian-smartphone to a computer via Bluetooth, emulating a video camera in all popular messengers. Smartphones from old (6600) to new (N95) are supported. Even if your phone is not in the list of supported ones, you can take a risk at your own risk by choosing a model with a similar version of the operating system. So, not finding my E50, I installed the version for E65. According to the website, all Bluetooth Stacks (IVT BlueSoleil Bluetooth Stack, Microsoft Bluetooth Stack, Widcomm Bluetooth Stack, Toshiba Bluetooth Stack) are supported, and Toshiba has earned no questions asked. The only obstacle may be the installation of the client part on the smartphone. The certificate for the sis-module was expired and the module did not want to be installed. Everything was decided by a banal clock transfer by July last year.

The program is free, more precisely donation ware, 3,5m in the archive.

Of course, this decision is not a panacea. The quality of the picture is determined by the matrix of the device, and the resolution of the output video is determined by the internal restrictions imposed on the video file. Plus, the video is superimposed with a watermark with the name of the creator. But as a solution “free here and now” the program is very interesting.
