Singapore woman imprisoned for duplicity on the web

A married Singaporean woman who met a man on the Internet and after promising to marry asked to send her $ 45,000, was imprisoned for six months.

Thirty-six-year-old Maliha Ramu used a fictitious name and photographs of Bollywood actress Gayatri Joshi when she began dating Bharani Indran, an Indian living in the United States.

After Rama promised to marry Indran in 2004, she told him to send her about $ 45,000.

Indran began to suspect Rama when she asked for more money and sent a statement to the Singapore police, according to the Straits Times. Also, it was written there that the husband had no idea what Rama was doing on the Internet.

“No normal person will send such a sum of money to a woman who claims to love him and is about to get married, even if he hasn’t seen her in person,” Straits Times reports her husband’s words to Ram.
