Speaking English

Good morning. After I just stumbled upon a stormy discussion on the English language, in the topic about freelancing, I decided to still share some information with habrauyus.

Many learn the language themselves - and indeed, having some foundation, improving grammar knowledge from textbooks and expanding vocabulary on articles / books / TV shows / films is a very convenient option (you can then later review the podcasts aimed at learning English, if interesting). But practicing ordinary spoken English at home is no longer so easy. I tried to look for interlocutors from English-speaking countries on Skype - to no avail. My friends, who speak English quite well, hadn’t succeeded in talking in a foreign language.

And that's what I found for myself: Moscow English Conversational Club (I foresee anger at the default city - I'm sorry, I write about what I know ). The name speaks for itself. People come here who (just like you) want to speak English. All information can be found on the site, but I will set it up here and add some of my first visit impressions.

Where : two steps (literally) from m. Chekhovskaya. The room is a hall where people communicate standing up, a hall with chairs and a small stage (often there are events like small concerts, lectures, film screenings) and a small cafe (self-service).
When : every Wednesday and Sunday from 18.00 to 21.30.
How much : entrance - 130 rubles (this amount includes unlimited consumption of coffee, tea, juice, cola, cookies :))
A lot of people (100-150 on average), by the middle of the evening in the room is really crowded. Native speakers are, according to eyewitnesses - 10-15% of the total mass, and on Sunday there are more of them than on Wednesday.
How it all happens - the community (as well as Habr) self-organizes. You approach any person you like and offer to talk. Voila!
')
My impressions of the first visit are purely positive. The atmosphere is quite warm and friendly, and if you manage to find a common language with the interlocutor / interlocutors (you can and do not need to communicate not only in pairs, but also in small groups - 3-4 people), then you can touch on more interesting topics than standard hobbies / interests / films / music / literature / travel.

I hope that someone this information was helpful. And, finally - please do not arrange in the club Habraeffekt =)
