500 thousand books for Sony Reader

Google has decided to transfer 500,000 books available on Google Book Search for the use of Sony. Now the owners of the e-reader Sony Reader can free download works published before 1923 and are not protected by copyright.

To heighten convenience, Google has converted books from PDF format (which is not very suitable for an electronic reader, since it contains a fixed line length) to EPUB (electronic publication) format, which is more relevant for Readers.

An interesting fact is that Google announced the complete absence of plans to support Sony in its competition with Amazon and its Kindle. According to representatives of the corporation, Google just wants to make books as accessible as possible. In any place, and any time and on any device. Nevertheless, the 500 thousandth library of books in a convenient format for the Sony Reader is already close to the 600 thousand books available to Kindle users.

The only pity is that all books transferred by Google are English-language. This is understandable: officially, the Sony Reader does not support Cyrillic fonts and, moreover, is not supplied to Russia and the CIS countries.
