Fujitsu FLEPia Reader: Color Screen and Wi-Fi

A month ago, I wrote that Fujitsu together with SoftBank Telecom and the Mainichi Newspapers publishing house are testing the possibilities of using electronic paper in information terminals. As an information terminal, Fujitsu development was used - an electronic book called FLEPia. It seems that the "test" was a success. Since Fujitsu announced the release of FLEPia.

The main difference between FLEPia and its analogs lies in the fact that its 8-inch screen is made of colored electronic paper. It is capable of displaying 260 thousand colors and is characterized by a resolution of 1024x768 pixels. Display update time is not too fast: from 1.8 to 8 seconds. However, the display supports input using the stylus (there is an “on-screen keyboard”). Due to this, as well as the availability of the Wi-Fi module, users will be able not only to read books, but also to work on the Internet. Fujitsu offers models with a Bluetooth module, which can be used to communicate with a mobile phone and access it via the Internet.

FLEPia is equipped with an SD card slot, a USB port and a battery, which, according to the manufacturer, should last for 40 hours. But this is with one condition: if the energy will be spent only on updating the information on the display. The operation of the wireless communication module and other components when surfing the Web ate the battery much faster.

Fujitsu started taking pre-orders for FLEPia yesterday. And already 20 aperelya the device will appear on sale. There is an electronic reader with a color screen just over $ 1000. Expensive.
