Conventional light bulbs in Europe will be discontinued

According to Deutsche Welle, the European Commission approved a plan to curb sales of traditional light bulbs (incandescent bulbs). From September of this year, 100-watt bulbs will disappear from the stores of all 27 countries in the unit. Further, next year, a ban on 75-watt incandescent bulbs will follow, and by 2012, the usual light bulbs in the EU will remain only in the memories of old-timers.

As you might guess, this insidious plan is aimed at replacing incandescent bulbs with energy-saving counterparts (mainly fluorescent and LED), which are up to 75% more efficient.

PS As far as I know, in Russia there is not even the infrastructure for the disposal of fluorescent lamps. In Europe, they, as well as other small chemical garbage (batteries, for example), are forbidden to be mixed with ordinary garbage. Throw them in special bins, often found in stores.
