Opinions that are safer, Vista or XP.

Kaspersky Lab found Windows Vista less secure than Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (SP2), according to ZDNet Australia. This conclusion was made by laboratory experts after a thorough study of the User Account Control (UAC) system built into Vista.
The UAC system is responsible for managing user accounts in the operating system and delegating user rights. According to Kaspersky Lab experts, there are a number of ways to bypass the UAC in order to gain access to the system and limit the rights of the system administrator.

"The question of whether the Vista security system has improved, or vice versa, has worsened compared to XP, remains open," Natalia Kasperskaya, general director of Kaspersky Lab, told ZDNet UK at CeBIT'2007.

Kaspersky also confirmed the opinion of Symantec and McAfee experts that the Windows Vista Patchguard kernel protection system makes it difficult to develop anti-virus software for the Microsoft operating system. Patchguard prohibits the execution of program code affecting the core of the system, which, on the one hand, protects the kernel from viruses, and on the other hand makes it difficult for modern antiviruses to work.

Microsoft representatives said that they were extremely surprised by the conclusion of experts from Kaspersky Lab. “Kaspersky Lab is one of our best partners. Their findings seem at least strange to me, ”said Arnaud Edelmann, product safety manager at Microsoft.

Evgeny Kaspersky, the founder of the Laboratory, said that, unlike hackers, software developers have to overcome barriers of licensing and private access to the functions of the Vista operating system.
