Data mining in the service of Euchar

Personnel departments of the largest IT-companies use the latest technology to spy on staff. Already recorded not only postal correspondence, but also IM-messages and SMS. The goal is to make whole behavioral patterns out of these pieces (in the content, emotions, leadership qualities of employees, their fatigue and motivation are revealed) and to carefully profile each employee in order to evaluate his effectiveness and usefulness for the company.

BusinessWeek magazine in the section “Breakthrough ideas for business” writes that in companies such as Microsoft and IBM now use programs for mathematical analysis of the value of each individual employee, and in some unnamed Internet company uses software produced by Cataphora for profiling employees. This software tracks the employees through which important business information passes (or who generates such information), and on the basis of this, the program presents each employee as a circle of various diameters and colors, which allows you to identify “opinion leaders” and “effective communicators” at a glance (large dark circles) and people ready for dismissal (empty small circles).

How this software works is not entirely clear, but it is known that Cataphora has always specialized in employee tracking technology. Judging by the description of their products, most likely, we are talking about Cobra technology (a comprehensive analysis of document management, postal correspondence, SMS messages and other communication channels - with recognition of emotions, behavioral habits and other non-verbal characteristics of each user). After collecting information, a statistical analysis is performed using the theory of social networks, graphs and the theory of lattices . Previously, these technologies were used for legal purposes. But now, apparently, even HR departments are beginning to use similar programs.
