Experiments with ferromagnetic fluid (video)

Ferromagnetic fluids are a colloidal solution of magnetic particles in a liquid medium. The result is a liquid that can be influenced by a magnetic field. When using complex magnetic structures, you can get really amazing processes!

Despite the name, ferromagnetic fluids do not exhibit ferromagnetic properties, since they do not retain residual magnetization after the disappearance of the external magnetic field. In fact, ferromagnetic fluids are paramagnetic and are often called “superparamagnetic” because of their high magnetic susceptibility.

Ferromagnetic fluids are used in the production of high-quality acoustic speakers, as well as in the creation of “smart” shock absorbers that can change the rigidity in a matter of moments.
