Internet for everyone! - Petition addressed to the government of Israel

Internet for all

In the Israeli segment of the Internet there is a situation of silent support for the Internet Explorer browser. Many site developers are mainly interested in their site working in this browser. Most users have never heard that there are alternative browsers. In such a situation, Internet Explorer has become the de facto standard.

But not everything is so gloomy. In Israel, as in the rest of the world, there are users of alternative operating systems and other software solutions. And they are not going to sit back.
')

So spouses Roded and Sarah Conforti organized a collection of signatures for a petition in support of alternative web browsers. The collection of signatures is carried out on the Internet at http://petition.mac-it.co.il/ (Hebrew site). The action has been going on for more than three months and over three thousand people have signed up for the petition.

Approximate translation of the text of the petition from Hebrew into Russian:
Internet for everyone!
We, the representatives of the Israeli community of Internet users who subscribed below, demand from owners of Israeli sites, such as banks and government sites, to bring their sites in line with world standards and support popular platforms and web browsers such as Safari, Firefox, Konqueror and not only Internet Explorer.

The response of the government was not long in coming. The topic was brought up for discussion in the government commission on science. Most of the representatives of the commission were in favor of supporting alternative browsers. During the discussion, opinions were also expressed that the reworking of government websites required large investments.
