After unsuccessful attempts to honestly use Twitter, I found out that throwing pieces of original thoughts from time to time does not allow faint-heartedness, and writing “drank milk”, “went outside” is absolutely disgusting.
I tried to adapt Twitter to the case. Suppose we have any software project. We have created it from great aspirations and we deal with it on the enthusiasm of free time. In spite of the fact that we raised a project-tracker, VCS, mailing lists and a Wiki in a very adult way, sooner or later the interest in the project fades away. Once you stop allocating at least 1-2 hours a day for this job, you forget to update the wiki, a lot of tasks solved for 70 percent hang in the tracker.
The idea was to adapt Twitter to create developers a sense of constant involvement in the project. That kind of shoulder feeling comrade.
So, that for this it was necessary to do. All participants registered on Twitter and signed an agreement: every day each participant is obliged to write about their work on the project. If he didn’t work on the project, he is obliged to write something like “Today I didn’t do anything on the Metamind project.”
At that time, Twitter perfectly supported sending sms-ok, so at any moment we, the participants, could receive a reminder from friends who did something: “Man, you are busy with me in the project. I now work, and you? ".
The method worked perfectly, there was not a single case for a participant to fail a fool for more than two days. I highly recommend it to everyone.
Now comments on improvement:
- Now it's better to use not Twitter, but another service, in which SMS messages are better supported. Examples were suggested : www.twe2.com , smster.ru
- For the same reason, it would be good for all participants to put the twitter client on their machines. The more annoying - the better. I recommend Google gadget and pwitter
- It would be nice to arrange a broadcast on Twitter news commits, changes in the project tracker and changes in the wiki.
