Facebook answers the call from Twitter

Facebook yesterday announced a number of upcoming changes to the home page (see layout ), profile pages and activity streams. All together, all these innovations (Zuckerberg calls them “philosophical”) clearly suggest that the world's largest social network seriously takes into account the growing popularity of Twitter as a system of broadcasting messages beyond the circle of friends.

List of major changes.
1. Facebook blurs the line between closed profiles and open pages, that is, profiles can now be made open.
2. The limit of 5000 friends is removed for public pages.
3. The speed of updating the streams of activity increases (earlier it was 10 minutes, now it will be closer to real time, like on Twitter).
4. In the current feed, you can now not only add your status, but right there you can add links, photos and videos (again, like on Twitter).

Everything is logical. If Facebook can not buy Twitter , then you have to develop the missing functionality yourself.
