ESET reports Trojan programs that exploit Excel vulnerability.

ESET announces the detection of X97M / Exploit.CVE-2009-0238.Gen and X97M / TrojanDropper.Agent.NAI Trojans that exploit the Microsoft Excel vulnerability present in Excel 2000, 2002, 2003, 2007, Excel for Mac 2004, 2008, as well as Excel-Viewer and Excel Viewer 2003.

Vulnerability has arisen due to an error when processing Excel files. When you open an infected file on the computer of a user whose anti-virus product does not detect these malicious programs, the malicious code activating the backdoor in the operating system (Win32 / Agent.NVV) is activated. It allows the attacker to gain complete control over the computer.

To avoid infection, users are advised to refrain from opening files with the .xls extension from unknown senders. Trojans X97M / Exploit.CVE-2009-0238.Gen and X97M / TrojanDropper.Agent.NAI are detected by all anti-virus solutions of the ESET NOD32 family.
