5 proven ways to make your audience feel like idiots

1. Start with “terms and definitions”
There are several variations of this method:

You can give well-known definitions, hinting that those present are not quite adequate:

It is possible to give definitions in such a language that would immediately show “who is smart here”:

You can give a lot of definitions at the very beginning, when the audience has no idea why they need to delve into it. Then the speaker seems to have the moral right to use all the “introduced” definitions in a crowd, emphasizing intellectual superiority:

2. Read aloud text on slides.
Although many do not know, but the slides are not intended to duplicate the text of the speech (here there is an article about it).

But if the speaker is poorly prepared for a speech, then he has no choice but to read the slides. On the other hand, it is often possible to see a situation when an almost complete text of a speech with “literary” turns is initially put on the slides, and, accordingly, the speaker shows the same thing that he says aloud. In any case, this situation is associated with childhood memories when mom or dad read books aloud.

Often, the speaker, reading slides, generally stands (or even sits) almost with his back to the audience.

3. Provide "visual" data
When showing a slide of this type, you need to say “the current situation is all you can see vividly in this diagram / scheme / table”. At the same time, each listener tries inadvertently to look at the neighbors in order to understand if he can not make out anything because of his lack of talent. After this phrase you need without any explanation calmly turn over to the next slide.

4. Use more abbreviations and formulas.
This helps the speaker to show that he is an expert in the subject. And those present are not. This method works perfectly in combination with method No. 1 - definitions of all the abbreviations used can be given on the first slide, and here you can already check the memory and attentiveness of the audience.

5. Mission. Values Strategic vision. Story.
Even if the topic of the presentation has nothing to do with any of these things, you can always devote at least a few minutes of the presentation to them. Let the audience know that the speaker has these wonderful things, and silently heed the fundamental truths.

There are many other ways to show your opinion about their intellectual abilities. Ask the audience stupid questions. Retain the last word in the sentence, implying that someone must guess and finish it. Modestly modestly describe their own epic feats as if “by the way they had to”. Vigorously joke and first laugh at their jokes.

And what ways of their presentations, where you were, you remember most?
