Electronic fare and ... forgot about the environment.

Since January 1, 2009, a new form of payment for travel has entered into force in Samara. These are refillable plastic electronic cards. So far I have not bought them myself, but I constantly go by public transport (buses / trolley buses / trams / subways) and watch.

Despite the fact that payment is now possible through the card (that is, money was withdrawn from the payment process in transport), paper tickets are issued to confirm the trip, paper tickets are issued that differ only in color from tickets purchased for money.

I wonder why it was impossible to transfer payment confirmation to the card itself. When paying, the device servicing these cards makes a mark (record) in the card's chip about the remaining money, that is, deducts the cost of the trip from the amount on the card and writes it back. It was quite possible to make a memory cell for a unique session of the trip, which is generated when the vehicle starts from the depot or the final stop.

And when the control enters the bus, the controllers receive a session of this trip, and begin to check all the cards for the presence of this session.

')

As a result, paper tickets would have fallen out of circulation, at least among people who pay for the trip with a card, and there are more and more of them. So the concern for the environment would be and the cost of producing tickets would decrease. The initial revision of such chips is clearly worth less.

PS

1) If there were no tickets, it would have been impossible to raise someone else's ticket, or just take it.

2) Although, of course, having your own flasher in your pocket, you can read the session from another paid card and enter it, but I do not think that there will be many such craftsmen and fans who share a card.
