Google joins antitrust complaint against Microsoft

Google posted the following post :

Last month, the European Commission issued a ruling in response to a complaint that Microsoft imposes its Internet Explorer browser with the Windows operating system, and said that imposing “hurts competition between web browsers, undermines innovation, and cuts user choice ". Later, Mitchell Baker from Mozilla published comments: “Weakening (actually approaching total destruction) of competition, weakening user choices and innovation in how people access the Internet is how Microsoft does business.”

We are signing up to become a third party in the process of the European Commission. And that's why:

')

First of all, browsers are very critical for the Internet - they give you the ability to surf the web, search, chat, write letters, watch videos or participate in social networks. And since they are so connected with users, they are responsible for the innovations on the Internet.

Secondly, Google believes that the browser market is still far from competition, which makes it difficult to create more convenient working conditions for users. This is due to the fact that the Microsoft browser is being imposed with its operating system that dominates the market; which is very unfair to other browsers. Comparing with the mobile market, where Mikroskofot cannot impose its browser with the dominant system, not many people use their browser. The value of competition (despite the limitations that we see today) for users is extremely clear: tabs, fast loading, incognito modes, etc. Increasing competition will stimulate more innovation both within browsers and in web design, allowing sites to load faster, offering New types of interactive tools and applications.

Finally, we believe that we can contribute to the discussion. We have learned a lot by launching our own browser last year, and we hope that in the future Google will be useful for the European Commission in evaluating ways to improve user experience and provide them with a real choice. Of course, it’s not easy to create a solution to one problem without creating unintended consequences, but the more companies involved in the discussion, the greater the chances for a correct solution.

We do not know how the process will end, but we are sure that a large concretion in this area is a great innovation and more convenient opportunities to use the Internet anywhere.
