The time has come to talk about our project, which is called “Meeting” ( vstrecher.ru ) and we launched it, ironically, the same day that Google launched its Latitude. But it is a worthy challenge;)

What it is?

A meeting is a service that answers friends to three eternal questions: Where are you? What are you doing? What are your plans?
The core of the service is a mobile phone application with which you can see where your friends are and what they are doing, and share this information about yourself at once with everyone.
The application works on 170 phone models.

Why do you need it?

We all live in big cities and often do not know what our friends are, until
which seems rather difficult to reach, are often very close:
in a nearby cafe, club, ride around on a bike or go to
closest movie session. Vetcher removes this “ignorance” factor
and allows you to move around the city in a completely new way: not from one
geographical point to another, and from one person to another.

How it works?

First you need to register on the site vstrecher.ru by entering the invitation code Habr
After registration, you need to download and install a mobile application - it will allow you to always be in touch and easily update your location.
Communication in the service takes place with the help of statuses - short messages in the style of Twitter, which fall into the tape to all friends, and your friends can see your location on the map.
The location is determined by the mobile phone application via GPS (if available), the cellular network, or it can be specified manually.
Currently, location determination via GSM is possible only in Moscow and St. Petersburg. Other regions will be added soon. Manual positioning mode is available at any place.
